First the sky wash using my 1.5" wash brush, wet the entire page. Then in the middle section, drop in a mixture of yellow ochre and burnt sienna, very weak and well watered. Then for the rest of it, ultramarine blue well watered, from the top all the way down to the bottom. Then wash and squeeze out the wash brush and suck out a single cloud, twisting and dragging the wash brush.

Now with a mixture of ultramarine blue and burnt sienna, whilst the sky is ever so slightly damp, drop in a thin line and let it spread above and below. Now with my 3/4" wash brush, draw out a line by just running the brush along the page.

Now going to my 3/4" wash brush, a mixture of Hooker's green and burnt sienna and drop in the grass bank and repeat the colour underneath.

Now going to my rigger brush, with a well watered raw umber drag up a couple of sticks with some twigs coming out of them. Then to the left-hand side of these sticks, add a mixture of ultramarine blue and burnt sienna, so that you have a darker side and again repeat this underneath.

Now with my 3/4" wash brush and yellow ochre, just dab on with the brush. Now with a mixture of Hooker's green and burnt sienna, and while the yellow ochre is still wet, dab on likewise and again repeat in the bit that is showing beneath.

And there we go, your first lake scene.
